Hope Outdoor Classroom
The vision of an outdoor classroom is slowly becoming a reality as so many have volunteered their time and expertise. Donna Mills, a 6th Social Studies teacher here at Hope Middle School, has been working hard to "plant the seeds" of the outdoor garden. The presentation below provides information about outdoor gardens in schools.

Financial News:
We received $1500.00 worth of garden supplies via a federal stimulus grant through Mrs. Joni Torres from the Pitt Co Community Garden (across from Wintergreen Elementary.)
We received $500 from our Hope P.T.A. to purchase items for this first phase of our Hope Outdoor classroom project.
We received $200 as a gift to assist us from “A Time for Science.” www.atimeforscience.org/
A Time for Science is a nature and science learning center dedicated to encouraging environmental awareness and appreciation and to advancing science. Please review their monthly scheduled events that are for all ages to learn about environmental science, wildlife, gardens, astronomy and more at their 200 acre site which includes pond areas. Mr. Bray is a retired scientist and Mrs. Bray is a retired science teacher, both with a passion for education and hands-on /place-based learning.
Lowe’s is generously giving us reduced prices on soil and other needed items and delivering them to us for free this week!
Tractor Supply is generously greatly reducing the cost of two cattle fences and eight posts which will become four trellis areas in the center of our garden raised beds.
